Eto’o Nets Two Goals for Everton Against Burnley Thrilling Coach Martinez (+Video)
Former Cameroon international, 33-year-old Samuel Eto’o is apparently not showing signs of losing his killer instincts. The striker netted a double for the Everton Sunday as they moved up to ninth on the Premier League table but it wasn’t just the goals that delighted his boss.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez was quoted by Tribalfootball as saying: “As a striker, it’s not about how many goals you score, it’s how many chances you need to score,” said Martinez. “I was extremely proud of his performance.”
Martinez added: “His link-up play was exceptional, his defensive work was very disciplined and, for someone in that experienced part of his career to be able to play two 90 minutes on Thursday (in the Europa League) and today, I think it shows you the way he looks after himself and what an incredible professional to have in a young group.”
The former Chelsea striker opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he converted an overlapping full-back cross aimed perfectly towards him into a stunning goal. The former Cameroon international did not even need to check his stride before he powered his header in off the underside of the crossbar.
Five minute towards the end of regular playing time, Eto’o wrapped up the contest in the 85th minute when producing a sublime curling shot from range, mesmerizing the Burnley keeper. Eto’o almost bagged a hat-trick in the dying stages but was denied by the upright after rounding Burnley keeper Tom Heaton
The march ended Everton 3-1 Burnley.
