Afrobasket 2015: Cameroon, Tunisia Co-hosts
FIBA Africa has chosen Cameroon to host the Afrobasket 2015 edition alongside Tunisia. The conclusion came after top brasses of basketball’s governing body in Africa began meeting in Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday March 6.
The 5th session of the FIBA Central Board Meeting in Abidjan awarded Tunisia and Cameroon hosting rights of the 28th Afrobasket for Men and 24th Afrobasket for Women.
While Cameroon will be hosting the event for the very first time, Tunisia will be proud hosts for the 3rd time. FIBA Africa has placed Angola on standby to stage any of the championships should Tunisia or Cameroon fail to meet up the hosting demands.
Once an only average team, Cameroon national basketball team has turned into a major force and contender for the title of the African Basketball Championship. Their best achievement was reaching the Silver Medal in 2007. Since the late 2000s, the team has competed well against non-African competition, too.
Hosting this great event is an opportunity government and sport officials must not mess with by meeting up the hosting demands such as stadiums, lodging etc.
